Cagatay (Murat) Aymergen

mid-infrared instrument systems engineer

Cagatay (Murat) Aymergen worked part-time with the James Webb Space Telescope as the Mid-Infrared (MIRI) Instrument systems engineer at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center until August 2012 when he moved to a new spot as an instrument systems engineer with the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS).

Murat focused on JPSS' Visible Infrared Imager Radiometer Suite (VIIRS), which provides critical weather, climate, and other environmental data of the earth's oceans, land, and atmosphere. His final tasks as the MIRI Systems Engineer was ensuring MIRI continued on smoothly with the Integrated Science Instrument Module integration and testing program.

Murat received his bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD-CP) with an emphasis on space systems. He was part of a senior design project that won first place in NASA's Revolutionary Aerospace Systems Concepts-Academic Linkage competition. His master's degree is also from UMD-CP, in space systems design.

Murat came to U.S. at 15 years old from Turkey. He enjoys hands-on remodeling and building. He also enjoys traveling and photography.
